Fun security
As a rule, we are anti-technology. Things seemed less stressful before technology became popular. Some things may be improved and others not so good. However, we love this! It has given us no problems. The sound and picture is clear as the phone. It detects motion and sound farther than expected. It gives the temperature, humidity and wind speed and the metric pressure through your location. It maintains a date and time window and can replay with ease. The 64G SD card, not included, plays constantly and will overwrite when the entire card is filled. It takes a screenshot and has a beep on your phone for alarm whenever a motion is detected. The notification and screenshot can be viewed in messages. Very easy to use without carrying a direction booklet with you. Pairing didn’t come easy. The booklet wasn’t clear. Download the app. Within the app is a faqs section. Directions are clear there. The unit is 4” in length plus a 4 screw swivel mounted on the back that can be unscrewed. The wrapped cord with USB port in plug is 31/2”. I had a problem finding something and went to messages and submitted a request for help. Within hours the message was answered clearly. Great support. At night, if a yard light is turned on, it is vivid black and white-easy to detect something unfamiliar. We couldn’t be more pleased.
404 error occurs when attempting to link Google Assistant
Updating my review to 3 stars. I had to delete the app and authenticate via Google Home’s browser connection to solve my issue below (worked the second time). Still not a huge fan of the app and features it has to offer. My main issue is that I want to be able to set a scene to change a Daybetter smart bulb from one color to a different color. However, changing the mode of the bulb with a scene seems to be all I can get it to do (e.g., switching from white light to whatever color it is currently set to in Color mode). There is a Color Temperature setting that it shows in the scene setup, but unless I’m not understanding what that’s supposed to do, I think there is a bug that causes this to change the mode from color to white, and it functions the same as white light brightness as a result. Hoping they fix this with a software update, will change to 5 stars if so…
I can’t get this app to link to Google Assistant. When I try to connect via the Google Home app, I’m taken to the Tuya Smart app where I’m asked to Agree and link to give the app device control permission. When I click Agree and link, I am redirected to a page that indicates “404. That’s an error. The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know”. This is a bug that will make a purchase I made useless until it’s fixed or I’m provided a solution.
Easy set-up and reliable operation!
I have become a fan of Wi-Fi controlled lights and household devices that I could activate from my iPhone app when I am away. Lights, music, etc. It helps me feel more secure when I am not home.
The consistent problem has been the inconsistent ease of installation and performance of the available plug-in devices. Also, the expense can get out of hand when you need it to be several of them. With one major brand, it took nearly an hour and additional time on the phone with the helpdesk to get a single Wi-Fi hub let plug up and running. It took me a total of five minutes to successfully install three of these-two for lights and one for a radio. Please plug seem to have worked out all the bugs found in earlier and clumsy or attempts. Additionally, they are smaller than any of the others I have found-taking up just a tad more room then hey single plug and, most important Lee, not covering the second outlet on the wall plate.
Suffice it to say that I love these! They do the drug easily and reliably from anywhere you have access to Wi-Fi. Great product.

How to Connect Tuya Smart with Google Home and Amazon Alexa
Tuya Smart is emerging as a popular IoT platform with a large selection of smart home devices. The devices cover a variety of platforms, including lighting, sensors, large and small home appliances, security and video surveillance devices, gateway controls, energy, and entertainment.
Here we discuss how to connect Tuya Smart with two popular IoT services: Google Home and Amazon Alexa. If you purchased a Google or Alexa smart home hub device, like Google Nest Hub or Amazon Echo Dot (4th generation), they can be used to control the entire range of Tuya devices through voice commands and Android app inputs.
Create Tuya Smart Account and Register Device
Before syncing Tuya Smart with third-party systems, you should create a Tuya account and register the device. Download the app from Google Play or the App Store and complete the account registration process.
Next, the account will be verified on your Tuya Smart email. It is important to use the same email for registration that you did for Amazon Alexa or Google Home.
After the verification is complete on the app, it will ask you to set a password for Tuya Smart. Store it safely, as the password will be required if you want to access Tuya Smart on a new or separate phone.
Tuya Smart supports QR code authorization for its smart devices. Bring the Tuya Smart app near any smart device, and it will generate a prompt.
Once you hear the prompt, you can add (register) the device to the Tuya Smart app. You can also choose to rename the devices in the app, and they will be discovered with the same name in Alexa or Google Home. The devices have to be initialized, which means the power button must be turned on.
Connect Tuya Smart to Google Home
After registering the Tuya devices in the Tuya Smart app, you want to establish a connection between Tuya Smart and Google Home. For this, ensure your Google Home account is registered and the app is open. Choose the specific Google Home account you wish to link to Tuya Smart. (Both use the same email address.)
Go to the “+” button in the Google Home app homescreen to set up a new device. For non-Google smart devices, such as a Tuya Smart device, you will have to use the “Works with Google” option.
In the next step, you will come across a “Manage Accounts” screen which comprises a huge list of smart devices supported on Google Home. Go to the search button option to locate Tuya Smart.
Click “Tuya Smart” from the search results menu. It will automatically take you to the next screen for registering the IoT platform with Google.
You will be greeted by a screen that says: “Link your Tuya Smart account with Google.” This gives the Google Home device control permission of Tuya Smart and the account credentials. The linking is only required once.
The linking process between the two apps is now under progress. You must ensure both apps (if on different phones) are using the same Wi-Fi network, otherwise there will be connection errors.
To locate a Tuya Smart device to sync with Google Home, use its “looking for devices” feature and identify the device. If both are using the same Wi-Fi network, they should connect in no time.
All Google Home smart speaker instructions also work on Tuya Smart devices, such as:
- Okay Google, turn on/off bedroom light.
- Okay Google, set bedroom light to 20 percent.
After a successful connection, you should be able to see the relevant Tuya Smart device on the Google Home app’s “Home Control” menu under “Devices.” You can add all your Tuya Smart devices, and they will assume standard Google Assistant instructions.
Connect Tuya Smart to Amazon Alexa
To connect Tuya Smart to Amazon Alexa, you will need to have already downloaded the Alexa app and completed the basic setup. In the Alexa homescreen, go to “More” followed by “Skills & Games.” Here you can search for all the third-party apps that are supported by Alexa. Go to the search menu option to look for “Tuya Smart.”

Click “Enable to Use” to add Tuya Smart to the Alexa skillset.

Wait a few seconds for the skill to be enabled, and the accounts for Amazon Alexa and Tuya Smart will begin to link up.

In the next step, you will be greeted by a screen where you must authorize a link connection between Tuya Smart and Alexa. This allows the Tuya Smart account details to be transferred easily to Alexa’s synced account.
Once the Alexa account has been synced with Tuya Smart, you will be able to see the following screen indicating it has been successfully linked.
You can view your Alexa Smart home skills to check whether Tuya Smart has been added.
Alexa has a Discovery mode to search for new devices. To locate the Tuya Smart device, first power it on, then look for it to connect, which should take around 45 seconds.
All Alexa standard instructions will apply to Tuya Smart lights, switch, and smart plugs. For example, “Alexa, set the living room light to 20 percent.”

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to set up your WiFi RGB Lights using the Tuya SmartLife App on your phone.
They were really the best ones I found, because unlike most RGB LED Bulbs, they have a dedicated White Function, where you can change Color Temp anywhere in a range from a 2700k Warm White to a 6500k Cool White. I use them warm when I want to relax and cool if I’m taking photos of food or something for my VeganNuiLoa blog, and a different Setting for Editing Photos or Painting etc.
These also have Millions of colors, as opposed to the set 12 or so colors that you have to select from which most bulbs with similar features have.
They also are 700 lumens, which is brighter than most RGB bulbs currently on the market with the White Balance Function and millions of colors, and they only run at a mere 7 watts.
They also come in packs of four, making it a really great deal, like $10 per light.
You download the Smart Life App from Tuya on the Android or iPhone Store, then pair them with your phones Wi-Fi according to the rather easy instructions that come with the bulbs or in the app. You’ll enter your Wi-Fi password in the app while the lights are blinking after turning them off and on rapidly with the light switch. Be sure to name each bulb specifically as you add them, such as “Desk Right” and Desk Left”, etc.
All Smart Items in your home run on your 2.4GHz, so it’s desirable that everything else you connect to the internet with is connected through your 5Ghz side, and leave the 2.4Ghz for all of your dedicated Smart Technologies only, so as to avoid complications and potential conflicts and interference and other problems that are often reported.
The first thing to do is to create a Group with all the bulbs you want in your scene.
- Click on a Light Bulb
- Hit the Edit button in the top right corner of the lighting screen that pops up
- Then go down and click “Create Group”
- Then select all the Light Bulbs you want in your group.
- Click Save
- Name the Group Something Specific
You can create Multiple Groups, using the same or different light bulbs in each, so they can overlap this way.
You can adjust the group manually by clicking on it, then on the Control screen that pops up you can select “White Mode”, “Color Mode”, “Scene Mode”, or “Schedule”
Clicking the light bulb image will turn the lights on or off.
In White mode you can adjust Brightness and White Balance Temperature.
In Color Mode you can adjust any color from millions of colors. and below you can adjust the Color Brightness and Saturation. Saturation is really introducing & removing White from the color, so using Saturation you can add light hues of color to your White Light, and even further adjust to a more customizable White Balance, adding a bit of red or orange etc if you like. This tinted white is somewhat less bright than the white mode, however.
In Scene Mode, you have 4 presets, “Light”, “Read”, “Morning”, and “Leisure”, these are set presets you don’t change.
There are also 4 built-in Customizable Scenes, labeled Scenes 1-4.
To customize your own Scene:
Scene 1 – A Gradual Fading Single Color:
- Click on Scene 1
- Click the Edit Icon just above the scenes (the far right one)
- Select the color you want to pulsate
- Click “Back”
- Click on the Adjustments Icon just to the left of the Edit Icon
- Adjust your Saturation (Amount of White)
- Adjust your Brightness (the max it will reach)
- Adjust the Speed of the Pulse, (from extremely gradual to quite upbeat)
- Click “Back”
- Scene 1 is now saved
Scene 2 – A Cycling through 2-6 Switching Colors:
- Click on Scene 2
- Click the Edit Button right above it
- Trash all but the first 2 colors which cannot be trashed
- Click on the first color, and adjust the slider to desired color
- Click on the second color and adjust slider to desired different color
- Add up to 4 more colors, if desired, or just leave it at 2.
- Click “Back”
- Click on the Adjustments Icon just above it
- Adjust Saturation (White Amount) of all colors simultaneously
- Adjust Brightness all colors will reach
- You can adjust the above two settings before adjusting colors for a more accurate selection.
- Adjust Speed from rather fast, to highly pulsating colors, much faster than Scene 1
- This scene works much better on the faster settings, as the switches don’t seem so abrupt. Probably not good for seizures though.
- Click “Back”
- Scene 2 is now saved
Scene 3 – A Single On and Off Color (Strobe):
- This is like Scene 2 but with a single color only.
- Click on Scene 3
- Click Edit & Select a color
- Click Adjustments and set Saturation, Brightness and Speed from around 2-3 seconds to a full strobe light) Definitely not for people prone to seizures though
Scene 4 – A Multi-color Gradual Fade Switching between 2-6 colors.
- This is like Scene 1 but with multiple colors.
- Click on Scene 4
- Trash all but the first two colors
- Change the first two colors
- Add any additional colors, if desired
- Adjust Saturation, Brightness & Speed
Try using duplicate colors to change the tempo, and try using similar colors to slow down and smooth out the pace
Changing any Scene 1-4 for a group will automatically update the Tap-To-Run function of that Scene accordingly, even an existing function.
Setting up Tap-To-Run:
- Click on the “Smart” icon at the bottom of the app
- Click on the “Tap-to-Run” tab on top
- Click “+” to add a new Run
- Click “Launch Tap to Run”
- Click “Run the Device”
- Select your Light Group you want to use
- Only use “Switch” if you want to turn the lights off in the app all the time only, and not use the light switch
- Click “Mode” and Select on of your scenes (you can edit your scenes any time using the above guide)
- Use “Bright” and “Color Temp” on if you are selecting “White Mode” under “Mode”,
- You can do this to select different White balance Lighting for Graphic Design, Painting & Coloring, Drawing, or Reading etc.
- The Color Temp is via a Percentage, so mark down the percentage you want for each scene beforehand when adjusting your lighting, and adjust the percentage to the same one you wrote for each scene.
You can now launch your customized scene from the apps Home screen, or, better yet, you can now access these Tap-To-Launches from the Widget on your Devices Homescreen:
- Add a Widget to your Desktop
- Find “Smart Life”
- Select “Tap to Run Shortcut Control”
- Add it to your Home Screen
- You can Now Select any scene you want, or any customized White balance scene and launch into it directly from the widget
You can also create Automation from the Automation tab on top of the Smart Screen, if you want to change your white balance or color to start at a specific time of the day, according to Sun etc.
Under “Weather” there is a setting to begin at Sunrise or Sunset according to your location, so if you wanted the lights to turn on to a set temp at sunrise or sunset, you could do just that using the same method above.
Sunrise:
You could also simulate the rising of the sun by the following:
- Select Scene 1
- Set the lights to an Orange or Yellow shade with very low Saturation
- Set the Lights to Max brightness
- Set Scene 1 Speed to the Slowest speed possible
- This will actually just kind of make the sun keep rising and setting, but should be enough for your brain to get the picture.
Theater:
You can make a Movie Theater experience by creating a warm yellow or orange in the color mode and setting one preset to full brightness during seating and previews, then an identical one at a very low brightness for you activate via one-touch just before the feature presentation begins.
Romance:
You could have a romantic set of purple or pink or red, and maybe pair that with a Blue light elsewhere you can activate via one-click when things are starting to get sexy.
Gaming:
You can set up a dim warm white balance or a brighter low contrast yellow to illuminate your gaming area slightly and give healthy background lighting during your gaming experience
Photography:
These lights work great for photography. You can put them in a larger ballast, and cover the front with some tissue paper as a diffuser or leave them open, or put them in a smaller ballast for more focused lighting which can be further focused with a cone of black construction paper or something taped on the outside or inside. These don’t generate heat so there’s no need to worry about using paper products near by. They are dim compared to photo lights, and you’ll need a faster lens, probably a Tripod, and an increased ISO, with some post processing, but work great for creative lighting.
You can link your Smart Life app to your Google Home app, and it will load all of your presets into Google Home, allowing you to control everything with Google Voice commands, rather than Alexa if you don’t have Alexa devices.
